The threat to close the Centre was another in a long series of alarming and depressing attacks on the humanities not only here in Canada, but in the US and the UK as well.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I learned that the letters, petitions, media attention, and general outrage at the plan to shut down such an important institution paid off.
